Using the blue handle 1 , lift and slide the drive bay assembly forward until
the locating studs in the drive bay assembly are aligned with the slots on the
sides of the chassis. Pull upward on the handle to remove the drive bay
assembly completely from the chassis. Depending on what component of the
computer you want to remove, you can either disconnect the cables from the
rear of the drives or leave them connected.

Installing or replacing a memory module

This section provides instructions on how to install or replace a memory module.

Your computer has four slots for installing or replacing DDR2 DIMMs (double data
rate 2 dual inline memory modules) that provide up to a maximum of 8 GB of
system memory.

When you install or replace a memory module, use the following guidelines:

Use 1.8 V, 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM (double data rate 2 synchronous dynamic
random access memory).

v

Use 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB memory modules in any combination up to a
maximum of 8 GB.

Note:

Only DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs can be used.

To install or replace a memory module:
1.

Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the
computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and
disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.

2.

Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 16.

3.

You might have to remove the drive bay assembly to access the memory slots.
See “Accessing the system board components and drives” on page 17.

4.

Remove any parts that might prevent access to the memory slots.
