Fax reception

The telephone line cord is connected to the EXT jack on the unit.
Connect to the LINE jack (p. 24).

The receive mode is set to the TEL mode. Set to the FAX ONLY or
TEL/FAX mode.

The time to answer the call is too long. Decrease the number of
rings (p. 60, 69).

The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode.

The sender transmitted a faint document. Ask them to transmit a
clearer copy of the document.

The thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 90).

Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print on.
Try turning the paper over. We recommend smooth paper such as
Hammermill

Jet Print for clearer printing.

The receiving reduction rate is not programmed correctly. Program
the proper rate (p. 71).

Cause & Remedy

Problem

I cannot receive documents.

I cannot receive documents
automatically.

The display shows “CONNECTING.....”
but faxes are not received.

The recording image is faint.

The printing quality is poor.

A blank sheet is ejected after the
received documents are printed out.

Receive mode

If you set the FAX ONLY or TEL/FAX mode:
– Select the desired mode using feature #77 (p. 68), and
– Press

to turn on the AUTO ANSWER light.

If you set the TEL mode:
– Press

to turn off the AUTO ANSWER light.

Cause & Remedy

Problem

I cannot select the desired receive
mode.

Fax transmission

If your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, the
service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect
the unit to a line that does not have these services.

The extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up
the extension telephone and try again.

The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 90).

Use the overseas transmission mode (p. 54).

Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 32) or dial
manually.

Cause & Remedy

Problem

The other party complains that
letters on their received document
are distorted.

The other party complains that dirty
patterns or black lines appear on
their received documents.

I cannot make an international fax
call.
