Updating the IEEE 1394 Drivers (Windows 98 SE Only)
Before installing Nikon Scan 3 under Windows 98 SE, users of the SUPER COOLSCAN 4000 ED
will need to complete the IEEE 1394 driver update as described below.

Holding down the shift key to prevent the Nikon Scan 3 installer from starting automati-
cally, insert the Nikon Scan 3 CD into the CD-ROM drive (if the installer starts, click Exit to
close the Welcome dialog).

Double-click the My Computer icon.

Click the Nikon Scan 3 CD icon with the right mouse button and select Explore from the
menu that appears. Open the “Microsoft” folder and double-click 242975USA8(.exe).

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

The dialog shown at right will be displayed
when installation is complete. Click Yes
to restart your computer.

Once the computer has restarted, click the
My Computer icon with the right mouse
button and select Properties from the
menu that appears.

Click the Device Manager tab in the Sys-
tem Properties dialog and confirm that a
listing appears for “NEC Firewarden OHCI
Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller,” in-
dicating that the update was successful.
