Please read these instructions completely before beginning installation

This instruction is intended to assist in installing Derale part number 14204 to a
GM 700R4 or 4L60E transmissions. After Transmission Cooling Pan installation
there will be approximately 2 quart 4 ounces extra fluid capacity.

REMOVING STOCK PAN

1.

Drain the transmission fluid (some factory pans do not have drain plugs).

2.

Remove all of the bolts mounting the pan to the transmission flange.

3.

Remove the stock transmission pan.

Note: On some late model vehicles a Rubber/Steel pan gasket comes

from the factory on the transmission. This gasket can be reused on
the new pan if desired. Be careful during the removal of the pan,
assuring that it does not get damaged.

4.

Clean the mounting surface on the transmission. Remove any old gasket

material with a gasket scraper being careful not to gouge the aluminum.

INSTALLING DERALE COOLING PAN

1.

Install the drain plug and rubber/steel washer onto the bottom of the pan

making sure it's sealed tight.

2.

Install the 1/8” NPT plug or temperature sending unit (not supplied) using

Teflon tape or other suitable sealant.

3.

If using the Derale gasket, apply a thin coat of Gasgacinch or other

suitable gasket sealer to the side of the gasket that will apply to the pan.
Sealant should not be required on the transmission side.

4.

Apply the gasket to the mounting surface of the pan.

5.

Raise the pan up against the transmission and thread the mounting bolts

in by hand starting with the opposing corners until all are installed.

6.

Using a ratchet, extension, and socket tighten the bolts to the factory

torque specs working in an opposing pattern until all are secure.

Note: Be sure not to over tighten bolts as the transmission is aluminum

and can be easily stripped out if excessive force is applied.

7.

Refill the transmission fluid by first adding fluid to the proper dipstick level.

Then start the vehicle, shift through the gears a few times. Check the fluid
level as instructed in owners manual. Now check the dipstick again. Add
fluid as needed.

8.

Quickly check for any leaks around the mounting surface or plug holes.

9.

Drive the vehicle for a short distance, making sure the transmission is

warm and recheck fluid level. Add fluid as needed.
