4.3 SOFTWARE
The Discovery SG-20 is a thin-client, front-end Light Information Terminal. Its
function is very easily configurable and fully determined by the software
package, driving the Discovery from the Back-Office/server. This software
package (or: added value) should be supplied by the System Integrator. This is
given the fact that there are no set international standards with regard to
product database structures and/or programming languages. Furthermore it is
not Scantech’s primary role to supply end-user application software.
4.3.1
Software functionality
The global function of the Discovery software package, running on the Back-
Office/server, is:
1. Set-up and maintain communication between the application itself and the
Discovery terminal(s).
2. Configure the Discovery terminal(s) with regard to:
- The standard scrolling texts
(“Scan your article”, “What's the price ?/ etc)
- Full screen images
- Icons
This configuration is done after the initial installation and after
service/replacement.
3. Provide product information (article name and price) from the store’s
database,
combined with the right fonts and graphics, to make the Discovery
