3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Basic Uses:

ATA-Shield is a self-adhering underlayment

designed specifically for use under metal

roofing. This membrane is well suited for use

where a water resistant barrier is required.

It is formulated to withstand the high heat

environment generated by some metal

roofing systems.

Composition and Materials:

ATA-Shield is composed of an unreinforced

polymer-modified bitumin material adhered

to the underside of a polymer-coated

synthetic woven material.

Size:

The ATA-Shield membrane is 45 mils thick

and is available in rolls 3’ wide by 72’ long.

Each roll weighs 48 pounds and covers

approximately 200 sq. ft. of roof surface. Split/

perforated release backing film aids in easy

positioning of sheets to maintain a proper line.

5. INSTALLATION

Recommended Application:

ATA-Shield uses include, but are not limited to,

application under metal roofing where a water

resistant barrier is required. It is also suited

for application in desert climatic conditions.

ATA-Shield has been specially formulated to

be high temperature resistant up to 240°F.

Installation manuals or hands-on training via

seminars are available through ATAS. Visit

www.atas.com for more information.

Application Methods:

ATA-Shield must be installed above properly

ventilated areas, as it’s considered a vapor

barrier. Apply ATA-Shield only in dry weather,

when the air, membrane and the substrate

are at temperature over 40°F. Protect

completed roof areas to avoid damage during

roof installation and material transportation

by installing protective boardwalks to

enable passage of people and products. It

is recommended to use a double layer of

ATA-Shield and repair any damage in critical

areas, such as the valleys or along the eaves

in climates where severe ice damming is

expected. For high wind or wind driven rain

protection it is recommended to cover the

entire roof deck with ATA-Shield.

ATA-Shield is to be laid out horizontally

(parallel) to the eave with the printed side

up, using 3” horizontal laps and 6” vertical

laps. Prior to application of the second course

remove the white release liner tape to expose

the lap seal asphalt. Care should be taken not

to walk on or contaminate the lap seal once

exposed.

Apply the membrane in valleys before the

membrane is applied to the eaves. Cut the

membrane into 10 -15 foot lengths and re-roll

loosely. Peel back 1-2 feet of release liner,

align the membrane, and continue to peel the

release liner from the membrane. Hand press

first followed by a heavy pressure roller to

smooth and secure the membrane, especially

at the overlaps layers. For valleys and ridge

applications, peel the release liner; center

the sheet over the valley or ridge, drape, and

hand press in place followed by a pressure

roller. When left exposed prior to application

of primary roof covering, secure membrane

in place, carefully sealing the laps, to protect

against uplift from wind exposure.

6. AVAILABILITY AND COST

Availability:

ATA-Shield is available through ATAS product

distributors.

Cost:

Contact ATAS product distributors for cost.

7. WARRANTY

ATA-Shield is covered by a thirty (30) year

limited warranty.

8. MAINTENANCE

General Storage Requirements: All materials

should be stored in their original unopened

packaging. Roll goods shall be stored on

end on a clean flat surface. Store all roofing

materials in a dry place, on raised platform,

out of direct exposure to the elements until

time of application. This requirement applies

equally to rooftop materials, temporarily on

the roof before installation. Store membrane

at room temperature whenever possible

until immediately prior to installing the roll.

Materials shall be stored in a safe way in order

to avoid exceeding the allowable live load of

the storage area. Do not double stack pallets

of ATA Shield membrane.
