Mist Netting / Capture Kit Instructions

Mist Netting or Capture Netting is used to get pest birds out of large enclosed areas such as warehouses, airplane hangars, grocery

stores, “BIG BOX” retail stores, etc. When one or two birds need to be removed before a bird control system is installed, mist

capture netting is the easiest way to do it. The best time to use the mist netting is when the facility is closed. This way you will

not interfere with business or customers.

Capture Netting

Mist Net is very fine netting, yet made of strong, extremely fine fibers that the birds

can not see. They are rectangular in shape and come in 4 convenient sizes: 7’ x

10’, 10’ x 20’, 10’ x 30’ and 10’ x 40’. (The mist net capture kits come with a 10’

x 30’ net.) The perimeter of the net has a cord that is threaded through the net to

provide a reinforced edge all the way around the net. At each corner there is a loop

that is used to attach or fix the netting in position.

The Mist Net Kits come with telescoping poles to make the netting more mobile,

allowing relocation of the net as the birds change their flight paths. The kit also comes with magnetic hooks to attach

the netting to exposed I-beams.

Capture Netting Instructions

1. Capture nets should be placed directly in the flight path of

the pest birds. This way the birds will fly into the netting

at their normal flying speed. If the bird hits the net at

a slow speed, it may not become entrapped in it.

2. If the birds are flying above beams where the net can not be fitted,

then you will need to induce the birds to fly into the net. Herding the

birds with a temporary physical barrier or with beams or laser light

will force the birds to fly below the beams where the netting is.

3. Do not pull the netting too tight, as this may cause the birds to not

get trapped, and they might even bounce off the netting. When the

birds hit the net its feathers become hooked in the strands and are

held tightly, immobilizing the bird making it ready for removal.

4. If there are a number of birds to trap, all of them will not fly in a

straight path. The first couple will be entrapped in the netting, the

rest will fly in a different direction. The other birds will most likely

avoid the area of the net, so you will have to move the net to the new flight path.

5. To remove the birds, it is easiest to cut a hole in the net where the

bird is located, and then leave the hole without repair. It is unlikely

that a bird will fly right through the net where this hole is located and

several usages of the net can be made before it is discarded.

Capture netting SHOULD NOT BE USED where protected or endangered birds are present

Capture netting SHOULD NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED for any time while in position as
trapped birds should be removed as soon as possible after they are caught.
