3.4.2.6 Console Group Information

To help control the synchronization of configuration data, Micro-PWC nodes are assigned to console
groups
. Nodes within a console group synchronize configuration data only with those nodes within the
same console group. Note that console group assignment has no effect on the ability to view collected data
in the various databases, including the Historical, Archival, Batch, Historical Block, Archival Block and
Event Bit Databases.

If there is a reason to distribute console group-wide data to another console group (for example, you may
have a graphic or spreadsheet you wish to use in more than one console group) this information can be
distributed to other console groups via the Console Group Synchronization utility, described in

Section

11.13, Console Group Synchronization

.

Assignment to a console group is made during the installation of the Micro-PWC software. The default con-
sole group number provided during the installation procedure is 1. A node cannot be in more than one con-
sole group. Up to 10 console nodes can exist in each group. Console groups can be assigned to numbers
from 1 to 50; this provides flexibility when assigning numbers. (While technically 50 console groups can
exist on the Network, the number of operator seats should be restricted to 50 per Network. Having more
than 50 operator seats on a Network could have a negative effect on system performance.) Console Group
assignments can be revised at any time after installation, using the Micro-PWC Maintenance Utility.

The System Status Display provides information about each node connected to the network. To see how
the console nodes on the network are grouped, click on the Utilties option on the System Status Display
menu bar, then click Console Groups Display. The Console Groups Display window (

Figure 3-12

) will

appear.

The Console Groups Display window is divided horizontally into a section for each console group. The
group number is displayed, followed by a group of icons with node numbers, representing the console
nodes in that group. The console group which includes the local node is enclosed within a cyan box. Micro-
PWC Client nodes are console-type nodes, but are by default members of the console group of their
server. This is represented visually on the Console Groups Display, where Micro-PWC Client icons are
grouped together in boxes following their primary node; a black line indicates the relationship between the
primary node and its client nodes.
