Digital radio broadcasting is a relatively new radio technology, which supports a wide range of new media
services. Audio, the primary service, is enhanced by many additional new digital services including Pro-
gram Assisted Data, Electronic Program Guide, and Slide Show.
To support easy design-in of the DAB baseband processor ATR2740, Atmel

®

offer a comprehensive evalu-

ation kit ATR2740-Dev-Kit1. Since the kit is a complete DAB radio with excellent performance, it helps to
simplify software design activities. The system stack of Eureka-147-based digital radio (which includes
DAB, DAB+, and T-DMB) provides the flexibility to implement a wide variety of services while providing a
platform for the development of future services.
Atmel has over 30 year’s experience designing digital radio solutions and offers a complete DAB solution
including an RF front end and a DAB decoding baseband. The ATR2740 DAB baseband processor is a
highly functional system-on-chip solution. Its flexibility enables the implementation of application-related
tasks. This chipset forms the hardware basis for the DAB evaluation kit.

DAB Evaluation Kit

AUTOMOTIVE BROADCAST RADIO

The DAB evaluation kit is a comprehensive tool,
which enables users to familiarize themselves with
the Eureka-147 family of digital radio standards. The
evaluation kit provides detailed diagnostic informa-
tion about the reception channel as well as detailed
signaling information about the service received. A
comfortable graphic user interface, installed on an
external PC or laptop, enables efficient and easy use
of the evaluation kit. In addition to the testing func-

tions, the evaluation kit also operates as a standard
DAB radio, providing high quality audio. The core
of the DAB evaluation kit is a module using Atmel’s
DAB chipset, the ATR2740 base-band processor
and the ATR2732 dual-band tuner device.
The DAB evaluation kit is perfectly suited for anyone
interested in Eureka-147-based services as it pro-
vides a deeper look into the standard and extensive
testing capabilities.
