12-Volt, DC Rechargeable Battery Pack

IMPORTANT

Please read all operating instructions before using
the TP-1509 12-volt, rechargeable battery pack.

INTRODUCTION
The TP-1509 battery pack is specially designed for use with
Tracerline® 12-volt, "instant on" inspection lamps.
The TP-1509 battery pack includes a 12VDC, 7.2-amp hour
rechargeable battery and a fused receptacle packed in a
nylon carrying case with an adjustable web shoulder strap.
The 12-volt plug receptacle is used for recharging and
connecting to the lamp using its 12-volt plug. A 120VAC,
12VDC-1000mA battery charger (TP-1506S) is included.
NOTE: The TP-1509/F battery pack includes a 230VAC,
12VDC-1000mA charger (TP-1506S/F). The TP-1509/J
battery pack includes a 100VAC, 12VDC-1000mA charger
(TP-1506S/J).

USING THE TP-1509 BATTERY PACK
The TP-1509 must be fully charged before using.
Check that the voltage characteristics of the battery

charger match the voltage of the AC outlet.

Connect the 12-volt plug to the fused battery receptacle.
Plug the battery charger supplied into a properly

regulated AC outlet.

• NOTE: The charger requires approximately 12 hours to

charge fully, depending on the discharge level of the
battery. The red LED indicates the charger is being
charged, while the green LED indicates it is ready for use.
The charger will not overcharge. For maximum battery life,
recharge the battery within 24 hours after each use and
before a voltmeter registers as low as 10 volts.

After the battery is charged, first unplug the charger from

the outlet, then unplug it from the fused receptacle.

WARNING

Use only the charger supplied to recharge the battery.
Other chargers may harm the battery and will void the
battery’s warranty. Recharge in a well-ventilated, dry
area. Do not expose the battery to high temperatures.
The maximum allowable temperature should be below
140°F (60°C).

USING THE TP-1509 BATTERY PACK WITH THE LAMP
1. Plug the 12-volt plug adapter of the lamp into the fused

battery receptacle.

2. Turn on the lamp.
3. Before storing, cleaning or servicing, disconnect the

lamp from the battery pack and allow it to cool. Refer
to the operating instructions packed with the lamp for
full information.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE TP-1509 BATTERY PACK
If the bulb does not light, it indicates low voltage from
the power source, a faulty connection, a faulty battery or
the need for bulb replacement. Refer to the operating
instructions packed with the lamp for full information.

1. Check that the lamp plug is firmly seated in the battery

receptacle.
Disconnect the lamp before doing the following
troubleshooting!

2. Use a voltmeter to check the battery terminals. Recharge

the battery if necessary. For maximum battery life,
recharge the battery before it registers as low as 10 volts.

3. If the battery does not recharge, disconnect it from the

charger. Use a voltmeter to check for proper DC voltage at
the charger output. If the voltmeter registers 13.2 volts or
above, the charger is working properly and the battery
should be replaced.

4. Use a voltmeter to check for DC voltage output at the 12V

plug receptacle. If the battery is fully charged and the
voltage still registers zero, replace the fuse. Simply pull it
out and insert a new one. Use a Buss ATC fuse or a
Littelfuse ATO 257-series fuse of the same amperage
supplied with the TP-1509. Either fuse is available at your
local auto parts store.

If the problem persists, contact your Tracerline
distributor or the Customer Service Department of Tracer
Products.
