Handling Files With Reserved Names

Handling Files With Reserved Names

SMCONVRT skips files with reserved names, including SMF logical files. With the
exception of SMF logical files, all files encountered with reserved names remain as
direct files. Examples of files with reserved names are in the following forms:

With the exception of the volume directory file (SYS00.DIRECTRY) or SMF files
(ZYS*.* or ZYT*.*), SMCONVRT issues a warning when it encounters any of the listed
types of files. You should be aware of the consequences of renaming a volume that
contains reserved file names before committing the remaining operation. If SMF file
types (ZYS*.* or ZYT*.*) are encountered, indicating that the file is in use by SMF,
SMCONVRT sends an error message and terminates.

Troubleshooting Migration Problems

The following summarizes some areas in which you might encounter difficulties in
converting files from direct to logical.

Expanding File Labels

SMCONVRT might need to expand some of the file labels stored in the disk directory
to store the required information to transform a file from physical to logical. However, if
the existing label is too large to accommodate the additional information required to
convert the file, the file is not converted.

If particular file labels cannot be expanded, SMCONVRT issues a warning message.
Under these circumstances, SMCONVRT allows you to abort the migration, after all
files have been examined, or to continue.

Enscribe and SQL File Types

SMCONVRT attempts to expand the file label headers of the following file types if they
do not already contain expanded label headers:
