BETTER

With the introduction of sophisticated components

and digital signal processing, there are multitudes of

connection options available. Each option provides you with

the opportunity to experience amazing video and audio

performance like never before. It’s really about what kind

of cable matches your component and hook-up scenario.

The Best options provide both a digital video and digital

audio signal through a single cable. Better connection

options require independent cables to provide a digital

video signal or an audio signal. And good connection

options offer you the best of an analog signal delivery.

Footnotes

(1) DVI and Component Video cables carry video signal only. You will need a separate audio connection such as Digital Coax, Digital Optical, 5.1 Digital

Audio when available) or Analog Stereo Audio (left and right) to complete your hookup.

(2) Component Video is the best analog video connection available. The video signal is carried on three individual paths to help ensure integrity of the

signal for best picture reproduction. Use this cable when the digital HDMI or DVI connections are not available.

(3) A limited number of A/V receivers includes HDMI inputs and outputs. If your receiver does not have this connection, use Component Video cable to

carry video signal from the video source, such as a DVD player or Cable/Satellite Receiver, to your A/V receiver. You will also need a separate audio
connection such as Digital Coax or Digital Optical. If your TV supports the HDMI connection, you can run HDMI cable straight to your TV. This will
however prevent you from being able to use the A/V Receiver to switch between components.

(4) The Analog Stereo Audio (left and right) does not carry digital surround sound. You must use either a Digital Coax or Digital Optical audio cable from

your audio source (a DVD player or a Cable/Satellite Receiver for example) in order to be able to transfer digital surround sound audio signals to your
A/V Receiver.

(5) If your components support IEEE 1394 FireWire® connections, you can use this connection instead of HDMI. Both HDMI and FireWire® carry digital

audio and video data, and you will not need a separate audio connection.

(6) In case when your HDTV has DVI inputs (not HDMI) and your components have HDMI outputs (not DVI), you can still utilize your HDMI outputs on your

components and connect to DVI inputs on your HDTV via HDMI-to-DVI Adapter. Note, DVI carries only the video signal, therefore if you want sound to
come out directly from your HDTV, you will need to run a separate analog stereo audio cable from your components to your HDTV.

You’ve invested wisely in today’s digital high definition video components and multi-

channel digital audio components. Get the most out of your investment with a hook-up

solution tailored to your entertainment and performance expectations.

1. Identify which components you want to connect and what kinds of inputs and outputs each

component offers.

2. Determine the level of connection you prefer and select the cables you need from the illustration below.

3. Install the cables.

4. Remember, you need to have both an audio and a video signal running from each component.

KEY

Select the level of connection(s) you prefer (best, better, good) to

create a video and audio connection between each component.

This hook-up guide represents virtually all possible audio and video

connections, utilizing different performance cables. You will need

one audio and video connection between components. Choose your

connections based on desired performance of your home theater.
