Allocating selected volumes to hosts

You can allocate selected volumes to one or more hosts.

1.

From the Resources tab, select Storage Systems.

2.

Expand All Storage Systems, and select a specific storage system. This will list volume group links
in the Detailed Information pane. Listed groups represent available pools, parity groups, and
volumes.

3.

Select a group from the Resources pane tree structure, or using the Detailed Information links.
This will list individual pools, parity groups, or volumes.

4.

Select an appropriate resource, for example, a pool or parity group with available capacity, or
an open-unallocated volume.

5.

Click Allocate Volumes.

TIP:

Open-reserved volumes cannot be allocated. Open-allocated can be used to allocate like
volumes.

6.

Specify one or more hosts, and other volume allocation requirements.

Allocating volumes to clustered hosts

You can group hosts that belong to a cluster into either of the supported logical group types: public
logical groups or private logical groups. This prevents possible errors with host selection. If logical
groups have not been created, you can select multiple hosts in the Allocate Volumes dialog box.

When you create a cluster configuration using existing hosts or when you add a new host to an
existing host group or cluster, use the Define Clustered-Host Storage dialog box to allocate volumes
to the new host. When using the Define Clustered-Host Storage dialog box, you can add the WWN
of the new host to the same host group as the WWN of the existing hosts.

Prerequisites

Tasks to complete beforehand:

Register clustered hosts into the desired logical group type.

Confirm the names of the hosts that belong to the target cluster (if you have not already registered
clustered hosts into a logical group).
