User permissions

User permissions determine the scope of resource management tasks that a user can perform. Only
those resources that are available to a user, depending on the roles and permissions assigned for
that user, are displayed.

By specifying roles in Device Manager and Tiered Storage Manager (GUI), managed resources that
belong to resource groups for which a user has permissions are displayed. All displayed resources
are available for resource management tasks.

User Management permissions that are common to Command View AE Suite products can be set up
in combination with all other Command View AE Suite permissions and roles. User Management
permissions also allow using the user management function and security management function for all
Command View AE Suite products.

The following tasks only require Admin permission for User Management:

specifying user settings

creating user groups for Device Manager and Tiered Storage Manager

assigning resources and roles to user groups

outputting user groups and user information in CSV format

specifying security settings

In Device Manager and Tiered Storage Manager, task-based permissions for the Device Manager
GUI, Device Manager CLI, and Tiered Storage Manager GUI are granted by assigning resource
groups and roles to a user group. To grant permissions for the Tiered Storage Manager CLI, you must
grant permissions to each user rather than assigning roles to a user group.

The following table lists roles and the tasks that can be performed when these roles are assigned.
