INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1955-1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Trunk Hinges

POST CARS ONLY

1. Before beginning the installation, take note of your trunk lid’s fit and finish. Pay close attention to the

width of the seams, alignment of the trunk lid to the fenders, etc. This will help in the final adjustment
of the trunk lid. NOTE: Do not attempt the installation alone. There are several steps in the
installation process that require two people to complete safely. Be sure to use anti-seize compound
on all stainless steel fasteners.

2. Mark the position of the stock hinges on the trunk lid and remove the four bolts holding it to the hinges.

Remove the trunk lid and place it in a safe location.

3. Locate the tab that holds the hinge pin in place. Use a screwdriver to bend the tab up and out of the way.

Push the pin towards the center of the car using pliers to take it out. The hinge can now be removed.

4. Remove the lower rear seat by pulling it up and forward.
5. Remove the seat back by bending the four tabs holding the frame

to the floor. Push the seat back and up to remove.

6. From inside the car, drill two 1/4” holes in the trunk divider

using the template supplied. The top of the template should
align with the top of the sheet metal (figure 1).

7. Using the ¼” bolts and washers provided, install the new ball

stud brackets to the trunk divider with the ball stud facing the
outside of the car (figure 2).

8. Remove the safety clips from each end of the gas struts by

twisting and sliding out of the socket.

9. Snap the struts onto the ball stud mounted to the hinge and

replace the safety clips. The struts should rotate freely on the ball
stud.

10. With the struts facing the outside of the car, slide the hinge into

the pocket, strut first. Attach the gas strut to trunk divider and
replace the safety clips.

11. Install the new hinge pins provide and bend the stock retaining

tab back down over the pin.

12. Reinstall and align the trunk lid using your new hardware.
13. Reinstall the rear seat.
