INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1955-1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Trunk Hinges

HARD TOP ONLY (No Post)

1. Remove the trunk lid by removing the four bolts.
2. Remove the trunk hinge springs. Some cars will have a cover over the driver side spring

that will need to be removed. Two screws hold it in place. Use vise grips or a short pipe
to lift the spring up and slide it towards the center of the car until the spring is free.

3. There is a tab holding the hinge pin in place. Use a screwdriver to bend this tab up and

out of the way. Push the pin towards the center of the car, and then use pliers to pull it
out the rest of the way. Now the hinge can be removed.

4. Drill a 5/16” hole in the hinge bracket ¾” from the back of the bracket and 1 ¾” down

from the package tray. See picture below.

5. Install the struts on the hinges with the rod end mounted to the hinge. Install a ball stud

in the other end. Now install safety clips on all ball studs. Ball studs should point in
opposite directions and can be turned by hand. Place two washers on the non mounted
ball stud.
