SIGHTING A BEARING. (FIG. A)
1. Hold compass level while sighting an object as illustrated.
2. Read bearing through lens at sighting line.

TAKING A MAP BEARING
1. Draw a line from your position to the desired destination.

Place the compasses sighting line on top of the drawn line
as illustrated.

2. Without moving the compass, rotate map until North on

the azimuth ring aligns with Magnetic North on map.

3. Turn the bezel so that the long luminous line is over the

North arrow. This will allow you to find and follow your
bearing again without going back to the map.

4. Read bearing at the sighting line or align the luminous

line with the North arrow. Sight on a distant landmark.
Move to the landmark then repeat the process until you
reach your destination.

Identifying landmarks along the original bearing path
(further the better) allows you to avoid difficult terrain
while maintaining a direct route to your final destination.
