Using the Built-in Speedlight

Follow these steps when using the built-in Speedlight with a CPU lens.

Rotate the mode dial to the desired setting

Flash for Digital SLR will be selected, and the
built-in Speedlight will pop-up automatically
when required.

Choose a metering method. In P, S, and A

modes, the metering method determines the
type of fl ash control used (

94); select matrix

or center-weighted metering to activate i-TTL
Balanced Fill-Flash for Digital SLR. Standard i-
TTL Flash for Digital SLR is activated automati-
cally in mode M and when spot metering is
selected in modes P, S, and A.

Press the

button. The built-in Speedlight

will pop up and begin charging. When the
Speedlight is fully charged, the fl ash-ready
indicator will light.

Auto Flash (

The built-in Speedlight can not be raised and fi red manually in

,

, and

modes. Once raised, the built-in Speedlight will only fi re when required for additional
lighting.

Red-Eye Reduction

Some lenses may block the red-eye reduction lamp, preventing the subject from seeing
the lamp and interfering with red-eye reduction.

When the Speedlight Is Not in Use

To save battery power when the Speedlight is not in use, return it to the closed position
by pressing it lightly downward until the latch clicks into place.
