Set the Dialing Mode for the Modem.

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then point to Control Panel.

Click the Modems icon in the Control Panel. The Modems Properties dialog
box displays (Windows Me).
Click the Phone and Modem Options icon in the Control Panel. The Phone
and Modem Options dialog box displays (Windows 2000).

Click Dialing Properties. The Dialing Properties dialog box displays
(Windows Me).
At the Dialing Rules tab, and then click Edit. The Edit Location dialog box
displays (Windows 2000).

Select Tone or Pulse from Dialing Mode (Windows Me and Windows 2000).

Click OK to close the Dialing Properties or Edit Location dialog box and
then click OK to close the Modems Properties or Phone and Modem Options
dialog box.

Open the modular jack cover.
Connect to the Telephone Line
Connect the telephone cord to the line jack on the side of the notebook until it
clicks into place.
