❑ The internal modem of your notebook is set to hang up if the called party
does not answer within 60 seconds. You may change this length to less than
30 seconds, which, however, may prevent a connection from being
established due to some delays caused by the telephone switch. It is advised
to set the length to 30 seconds or more.
❑ If your Internet service provider supports V.90 or 56K, communications of
up to 53 Kbps are available. This may vary, depending on the telephone line
condition.
❑ If you use a splitter to branch the telephone line, the internal fax modem may
not operate successfully.
❑ Select the appropriate mode adopted in your country. You can select it from
the Modem Properties dialog box.
Connecting to the Local Area Network (LAN)
For the detailed settings and devices needed to connect to the network, please ask
your system manager.
Using Ethernet to Connect to a Network
You can exchange data with other devices on a network by connecting your
notebook to the location’s Local Area Network (LAN). To connect the notebook
to a network, you need a network PC card. For more information on using PC
cards, see “Using PC Cards” on page 47 of the User Guide. Consult the network
administrator to find out about the accessory settings required to access the network.
