SAFETY INFORMATION

When using your telephone equipment, please follow these basic safety
precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or personal injury:

1. Do not use this product near water, such as a bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen

sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool.

2. Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless-type) during an electrical

storm. There is a remote risk of shock from lightning.

3. Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.
4. Use only the power cord, power supply, and/or batteries indicated in the

manual. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire; they may explode. Check with
local codes for special disposal instructions.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

Unpack the Backup system and inspect for damage. If damage is apparent, refer
to your carrier or supplier for remedy. It is not necessary to remove the batteries
during installation.

Wall mount the battery box with the following minimum clearances:

Top - 9”
Left Side - 1”
Right Side - 5”
Bottom - 3”

1. Using the template provided (61175044L4-19), mark and drill three pilot

holes using a size I (0.228” diameter) drill bit.

2. Insert 1/4” x 3/4” flat-head wood screws (supplied) into the three pilot holes,

leaving 1/8” to 3/16” space between the screw head and the backboard.

3. With an assistant, mount the battery box on the three support screws on the

backboard.

CAUTION

This equipment MUST only be installed in a DC-C bonding and
grounding environment per Telcordia GR-1089-CORE, Issue 3. It
may not be utilized in a DC-I (isolated) bonding and grounding
environment.

CAUTION

Electronic equipment can be damaged by static electrical discharge.
Before handling equipment, wear an antistatic discharge wrist strap
to prevent damage to electronic components. Place equipment in
antistatic packing material when transporting or storing. When
working on equipment, always place them on an approved antistatic
mat that is electronically grounded.

CAUTION

Fully loaded Battery Box weighs 30 lbs.

4. Remove the two closure screws on the battery box and open the cover.
5. Use a long shaft screwdriver to tighten the three support screws.
6. Make the connections to your ADTRAN product. (Refer to the documentation provided

with your ADTRAN system for detailed instructions on making the connections.)

GROUNDING

18 AWG or larger ground wire is recommended to connect an additional ground conductor
to “ground bus” in the customer equipment room.

WARRANTY

Warranty for Carrier Network products manufactured by ADTRAN and supplied under Buyer's
order for use in the U.S. is ten (10) years except batteries which carry a manufacturer’s warranty
of one year. For a complete copy of ADTRAN's U.S. Carrier Networks Equipment Warranty, dial
(877) 457-5007 and request Document 414.
