Decalcification

In areas with a high lime content in the water supply, the teakettle should be decalcified at regular intervals.
• Fill the kettle with a solution of 16 oz. water add 6 tablespoons of vinegar, and bring it to a boil.
• When process is complete, rinse the teakettle twice with clean water.
• Commercially available liquid decalcifiers may also be used. Follow the instructions provided with

decalcifier for use!

A regular decalcification will keep the Teakettle operating at peak performance and electrical efficiency,

it will also extend the life of the Teakettle.
Over time slightly brownish stains may appear inside of Teakettle. This is not rusting of the kettle, it is referred

to as boiler scale and is a result of high iron content in the water supply. These stains can be easily wiped

away with a cloth or mild abrasive. Rinse kettle thoroughly.

Boil-dry Protection

This kettle is equipped with a self-resetting “boil-dry” switch which protects the appliance in the event of

improper use. If heating is accidentally started without water or if the water evaporates completely, the

appliance is automatically switched off by a “boil-dry” protection. Try to avoid allowing the kettle to “boil-dry.”
If the “boil-dry” protection is actuated, disconnect the power cord and allow the kettle to cool down for a few

minutes (

CAUTION: Small amounts of hot water remaining in the kettle can cause scalding injuries) and then

refill with cold water. The kettle will now operate normally.

Additional Thermal Fuse

In addition to the self-resetting “boil-dry” protection, this unit is equipped with a primary temperature safety

device -- a thermal fuse. This fuse activates only in the event that the boil-dry protection fails to operate.

When this fuse is activated all power to the teakettle is shut-off and the unit must be returned to EdgeCraft

for servicing.
