INSTRUCTIONS FOR REBUILDING HYDRANT ANGLE VALVES

H-28 (3 X 2.5) & (4 X 2.5)

Refer to Illustration 1.(on page 2)

1.) Shut down and drain riser.

2.) Open valve slightly.

3.) Using only the hex on the Body to hold position, wrench off the Bonnet Nut from the valve Body,

turning the Bonnet Nut in a counterclockwise direction. If the Bonnet Nut threads are locked too tightly
to remove, it may be necessary to heat the threads in the area shown in Illustration 1. Remove the
Bonnet and Stem assembly from valve.

4.) Remove the Pentagon Adapter (or Handwheel) nut.

5.) Remove Packing Nut by turning counterclockwise and lifting it off Stem. (It may be necessary to heat

Bonnet – See Illustration 1.)

6.) Remove the old O-Ring (O-Ring 1) and install the new O-Ring.

7.) Remove any old LocTite from Bonnet and Packing Nut threads and replace the Packing Nut (start

threads by hand). Apply LocTite #242 (Blue). Tighten Packing Nut to MAX. torque.

8.) Replace Pentagon Adapter (or Handwheel) nut.

9.) Using the wrench flats on the Disc Holder and Valve Stem, wrench off the Disc Plate by turning

counterclockwise (it may be necessary to heat the Disc Holder – See Illustration 1.).

10.) Remove the old Seat Disc. Remove any old LocTite from Disc Holder and Valve Stem threads.

11.) Install new Seat Disc and Disc Plate (start threads by hand). Apply LocTite #262 (Red). Tighten Disc

Plate until rubber starts to deform. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.

12.) Lubricate the Acme Threads on the Valve Stem using “Never-Stick” lubricant. Turn the Valve Stem in

both directions to insure grease is applied to internal Bonnet acme threads.

13.) Remove any old LocTite from Body and Bonnet Nut threads. Remove old O-Ring (O-Ring 2) from

Body and install new O-Ring.

14.) Install Bonnet and Stem assembly into Body. Install Bonnet Nut, starting the threads by hand. Apply

LocTite #262 (Red). Using the hex on the Body only to hold position, tighten Bonnet Nut to MAX.
torque.

15.) Check valve for operation and leaks, then return to service.
