FlexCeiver

10B2 User Instructions

Description:

The FlexCeiver

TM

family of transceivers are compatible

with IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet Versions 1.0 / 2.0. They
enhance networking media connectivity using 10Base-
FL with single-mode (SM) and multimode (MM) fiber,
10Base-2 thin coax and 10Base-T twisted pair (UTP).

All FlexCeivers have a 15-pin AUI connector that attaches
to a mating AUI connector mounted on hosting Ethernet
DTE equipment such as a workstation or a PC, or on a
repeater such as a hub or a switch.

This FlexCeiver 10B2 model is described here:

Model Maximum Distance

Station Count

4220

185 meters / 606 ft.

30 maximum

The 4220 model provides a switch selectable coax line
termination mode that allows a RG58 type coax cable to
be terminated using an internal 50 ohm termination ele-
ment. This should be used only when connecting the
FlexCeiver at the end of a coax segment. It eliminates
the need for an external “T” connector and a termination
element. Note that this termination must be disabled
when the FlexCeiver is not at the end of the cable.

Mounting:

Insert the Omnitron FlexCeiver 10B2 into the 15-pin AUI
port on a PC, workstation, hub or switch; slide the con-
nector latch locking it into place. If an AUI cable is used,
it is limited to 50 meters (164 ft.). If connecting the
FlexCeiver at the end of a coax segment, attach the coax
cable directly into the FlexCeiver’s BNC coax connector.
If connecting along the coax line (not at the end), use a
“T” connector to tap into the cable. Note that the total
length of the cable must not exceed 185 meters (606 ft.)
and the number of stations on the coax segment must
not exceed 30 stations (per IEEE 802.3 specification).

Switch Settings:

“SQE” switch: When attaching to a PC (or a worksta-
tion), the SQE switch should be set to “SQE Enable”
(factory setting). When connecting to a hub or a switch,
it should be set to “SQE Disable.”

“Termination” switch: When attaching anywhere along
a coax cable except at the end, the Termination switch
should be set to “Termination Disabled” (factory setting).
When attaching to the end of a cable, it can be set to
“Termination Enabled.” Note that when the switch is set
to “Termination Enabled,” an external termination ele-
ment must not be attached.
