Operating Instructions for “Dilvac” Dry-Ice Maker

1. Connect feed hose to liquid CO2 cylinder.

Safety Notes – ensure the nylon-sealing washer (supplied) is fitted on the brass attachment,
which is connected to the gauge. The brass hexagonal nut pulls up and seals the attachment to
the cylinder. Ensure connection is tight; use only the correct sized wrench for this.

2. Firmly attach other end of the feed hose to the fitting on top of the Dry-Ice box. Ideally use two

wrenches for this, one to hold the hexagonal boss on the box lid the other to tighten the hose
connection. If one is only used, care must be taken to ensure lid fitting is not loosened when
removing hose.

Safety Notes – Ensure connection is tight; use only the correct sized wrench(s) for this.

3. Carefully open the valve of liquid CO2 – approximately ¼ to ½ a turn should be sufficient.

Observe attached pressure gauge to monitor flow – do not allow too high a flow, this can result in
wastage of CO2. Adjust valve accordingly to regulate flow.

Safety Notes – adjust valve smoothly and in small increments. Be careful of cold metal surfaces,
which may form ice. Wear appropriate “cold environment” gloves when handling!

4. Observe the process and watch for vapor discharging through the vents in box. Do not be

alarmed at the discharge, which is perfectly normal. Depending on the surrounding temperature,
it may take up to two minutes for the block to form. When the block is formed the vapor will turn
to a “snow” – TURN CYLINDER VALVE OFF!

Safety Notes – do not touch the box with bare hands whilst the process is on-going; do not allow
the cold vapor to contact eyes or other exposed areas of skin. Also note that the hose and fittings
will go white with “frost” and is extremely cold, appropriate “cold environment” gloves must be
worn if handling is required.

5. The Dry-Ice Block can now be removed from the box. Carefully release the four “snap locks” on

the lid and lift it off, fold back the hinged sides then remove loose sides.

Safety Notes – DO NOT touch the Dry-Ice Block with bare hands, always use appropriate “cold
environment” gloves.

6. There is no stand down time required; the box is immediately available for making another Dry-

Ice Block.

7. Always use the Dry-Ice maker in a well ventilated area; NEVER allow it to hang by the feed hose

before, during, or after use.
