Using the FAXPHONE with an answering
machine
Connecting an answering machine to the FAXPHONE allows you to receive not
only documents sent from other fax machines, but also messages from people
calling when you are out of the office.
When the FAXPHONE Is connected to an
answering machine, all incoming calls arc first directed to the answering machine. If
the call is from a person, the caller can leave a message. If the call is from a fax
machine, sour FAXPHONFi receixes the document automatically. See Connecting the
phone line, pg.l.^ for instruction on how to connect the answering machine to the
FAXPHONE.
Recording the outgoing message________
When recording a message...

Try to keep your message to less than 13 seconds long.

In the message tell your ctillers how to send a fax.
Here's a sample message:
"Hello. Em not in the office right now. but please leave a message after the beep. I'll
return your call ;is soon as possible. If you would like to send a fax. press the start
button on your fax after recording your message, d’hank you.”

Leave 4 sectxnds pause at the beginning of the message (the 4 seconds pause plus the
outgoing message should not exceed 13 seconds).

.Set the answerinc machine to answer on the first or second ring.

Press [ANS HOOK UP/MANUAL] until the Ley] icon

appears on the LCD display.

Set your answering machine to answer.

The F.AXPHONFi allows the answering machine to
answer, then listens for a fax tone. ;ind switches to
receix e mode autotnatically if it detects the tone.

Fhe FAXPHONE also listens for 4 seconds of
silence, also an indication that ;i fax is coming in.
After 4 seconds of silence, the FAXPHONE
automatically switches to receive mode.

If the FAXPHONE runs out of paper or ink. it
rcceixes the document and stores it in memory. To
print out documents in memory, sec pg.72. 73.
When not in use, turn the answering machine off
and switch modes to Manual receive () or
Automatic receive (no icon) using [ANS HOOK UP/
MANUAL].
