Pigtronix Philosopher’s Tone – User’s Guide

Welcome to the realm of Pigtronix!

Your new Philosopher’s Tone is a versatile analog compressor / sustainer / distortion effect that produces a
broad range of tones, from transparent optical compression to outrageous howling sustain and many
textures in between.

Rule #1: You don’t need to use the GRIT control to get great sounds out of the Philosopher’s Tone.
In most cases, compression tones will sound best with the GRIT turned all the way down.

It is recommended that you place the Philosopher’s Tone at the beginning of your signal chain for best
results. The Philosopher’s Tone will work well when placed before other pedals, especially pitch-tracking
devices, such as the Pigtronix Mothership that benefit from a powerful and consistent input signal.

Explanation of the Controls:

GRIT – Mixes in a layer of smooth distortion into the effect.
SUSTAIN – Sets the threshold for the compressor. Turn it up for more intense compression and sustain.
BLEND – Determines the mix of effected and dry signal. Keep it all the way up to explore the effect.
TREBLE – This powerful EQ is neutral in the 12:00 position and either cuts or boosts high frequencies.
VOLUME – Sets the overall output level of the device when engaged. Turn it up for a BOOST.
