Overview

This document provides instructions for installation and initial configuration of the Canoga
Perkins model L3xx media converter.

The EdgeAccess L3xx families of media converters are

manageable, Ethernet Compliant and support native 10 or 100Mbps LAN extension circuits. The
L3xx offers software configurable User Interface, a variety of optical network interfaces,
modularity and hot swappable with a common form factor to mount in Canoga Perkins’ Carrier
Class Universal Chassis System (UCS) as well as a variety of Customer Premise Enclosures
(CPE).

1 x UCS 1230 BAM (Bus Access Module)
1 x Model 1020-xxxx (management access CPE) or 1030-xxxx (unmanaged CPE)
1 x EIA-232 serial cable (straight)
1 x EIA-232 to DB9 converter (Canoga Perkins p/n CRJ-D9F-10)

Step 1: Unpacking

Unpack the L3xx and check the unit for damage. If the unit is damaged, contact Canoga Perkins’
Tech Support line, (800) 360-6642, and ask for an RMA.

Step 2: Module Set Up

Before installation into a chassis or enclosure, you must verify the application in which the L3xx
will be used, i.e. 10Mbps or 100Mbps Ethernet, managed or non-managed etc. The application
may require setting the dip switches located at the rear of the unit. If the unit is to be installed in
the UCS 1030 enclosure, set the desired configuration using Tables 1 to 4 as a reference.
Otherwise, the L3xx can be configured through software to the desired configuration when
installed in the UCS 1000, 1001, 1002 or 1020.
