OVERCAST STRETCH
STITCHING

This is the same type of stitch used by
the garment industry in making sports
wear. It is used for seams of 3/8” to

1 /4". The seam is formed and finished
in one operation. It must be used when

you are making swimwear, ski pants

and other garments that require stretch.

Fig. 1 shows the raw edge finished.

Stitch so the needle pierces the fabric

just short of the outside edge.

Raw or worn edges of older garments

can

be

overcast

to

prevent

further

raveling.

Zigzag Presser Foot

This is a good stitch to use in making or
repairing lingerie. The stitch is decora
tive as well as useful. Simply stitch

the elastic into place around the waist
of the garment, making sure that the
elastic is evenly spaced. To do this
mark

the

correct

length

piece

into

quarters

and

match

these

markings

with center front and back of the gar
ment as well as side seams.
