5" Thimble Exhaust Connector No. 5241900

Operation

The 5" Thimble Exhaust Connector connects to the top of the glove box blower for attaching the
accessory FilterMate Portable Exhauster. The glove box has been manufactured to exhaust into
the laboratory in its standard configuration. To remove chemical fumes and odors not trapped by
the HEPA filter, the glove box can be connected to an accessory FilterMate Portable Exhauster
equipped with carbon filters. The thimble connection is necessary for balancing the blower in
the glove box with the FilterMate Portable Exhauster that uses a 5" diameter inlet hose. Follow
the installation procedure below to properly connect the 5" Thimble Exhaust Connector to the
accessory FilterMate Portable Exhauster.

Installation Procedure

1. Disconnect all power to the blower and the glove box.

2. Remove the perforated plate on top of the blower as identified in the attached pictorial and

replace it with the 5" Thimble Exhaust Connector.

3. Secure the 5" Thimble Exhaust Connector with silicone sealant and reapply the 8 screws.

4. Attach the 5" hose supplied with the FilterMate Portable Exhauster and secure it with the

two hose clamps.

5. The 5" Thimble Exhaust Connector must be tested and confirmed to draw room air

through the thimble. A visual smoke test is a good method for confirmation. The
FilterMate Portable Exhauster should be set with its own speed control at approximately
20% above the glove box airflow during the visual confirmation. CAUTION: When
performing sensitive weighing operations, it may be necessary to lower the glove box
blower speed below 50 CFM and set the FilterMate Portable Exhauster at
approximately 20% above the glove box airflow to balance the weigh operation.

6. Reconnect all power to the blower and the glove box.

7. Installation is now complete.
