Storing a Flat or Spare Tire
and Tools

{

CAUTION:

Storing a jack, a tire, or other equipment in the
passenger compartment of the vehicle could
cause injury. In a sudden stop or collision,
loose equipment could strike someone.
Store all these in the proper place.

Use the art and text following to help you store the spare
or flat tire back into its proper spot when you are done.

To store the flat or spare tire on the spare tire mount,
do the following:

1. Slide the flat or spare tire onto the swing-gate.

In order to store the flat or the spare tire, you
may need someone to assist you.

2. Reinstall the nuts to retain the flat or spare tire.

3. Tighten the nuts by hand.

{

CAUTION:

Incorrect wheel nuts or improperly tightened
wheel nuts can cause the wheel to come loose
and even come off. This could lead to an
accident. Be sure to use the correct wheel
nuts. If you have to replace them, be sure to
get new GM original equipment wheel nuts.
Stop somewhere as soon as you can and have
the nuts tightened with a torque wrench to
the proper torque specification. See Capacities
and Specifications
on page 5-100 for wheel
nut torque specification.
