Functions incompatible with Parallel Access Volumes

Devices using PAV can coexist in the same storage system but cannot be used concurrently with
the following functions:

Open Volume Management

Cache Residency

LUN Manager

Business Copy Z

Continuous Access Synchronous Z

Continuous Access Journal Z

Devices using Data Exchange cannot coexist in the same CU with devices using PAV.

IBM CC and Extended Remote Copy (XRC) for Mainframe restrictions

For Concurrent Copy (CC) and Compatible XRC, the I-2107 controller emulation types cannot be
intermixed with other emulation types within the same storage system.

Parallel Access Volumes shared across multiple sysplexes

You can share PAV functionality across multiple sysplexes on a storage system.

To share static PAV, all connected systems must be in compatibility mode. To share dynamic PAV,
the following requirements and restrictions apply:

Only one sysplex should be running in Dynamic Alias Management mode. This master sysplex
is the only sysplex in the storage system that assigns aliases.

For all other connected sysplexes, set the WLMPAV (HCD) and Dynamic Alias Management
(WLM) settings to No.

NOTE:

If you have enabled the Dynamic Alias Management for more than one sysplex,

unsynchronized alias transition and unpredictable response times may occur.

For more information about setting the WLM mode,

Preventive Service Planning

If you are using the PAV feature on 2107 device type, download the Preventive Service Planning
(PSP) document from IBM by way of IBMLINK to use as a program temporary fix (PTF) source. The
title of the document is 2105MVSESA.

The PSP document identifies all current IBM PTF items applicable for z/OS and OS/390 support
of 2107 device type. The HP XP7 Storage does not have any specific PTF requirements beyond
what is required by the z/OS and OS/390 operating system to provide minimum support for the
2107 device type.
