Power delivery hierarchy

Power is provided through a set of power delivery devices. Insight Control power management
represents places that can be monitored in the power delivery points of the hierarchy, such as PDU
load segment output, PDU outlet, and so on, or a place where you may want to aggregate and
report on power consumption of a set of devices, like servers.

Describing the power delivery hierarchy in power management allows power management to
report on overall infrastructure utilization, providing you with knowledge that enables you to fully
utilize the available capacity while at the same time reducing the risk of overloading the power
or cooling infrastructure. Depending on the types of power delivery equipment in your data center
and the level of detail that you want, there is significant flexibility in how you describe the power
delivery hierarchy to power management.

Figure 2 (page 8) shows the elements of the power delivery hierarchy. Your environment may
include some or all of these elements.
