COMMAND

vcdba_set

SYNTAX

vcdba_set -s <oracle_sid> -p <db_host> -t <timestamp> -r

<time>{d|D|h|H} -f [-v]

DESCRIPTION

The

vcdba_set

command sets or extends a read-only virtual copy’s retention time. If the

volumes do not belong to a domain, the sets or volumes’ retention time cannot exceed the

value of the system’s

VVRetentionTimeMax

. The default value for the system’s

VVRetentionTimeMax

is 14 days. If the volumes belong to a domain, then the read-only

virtual copy’s retention time cannot exceed the value of the domain’s

VVRetentionTimeMax

,

if set. The retention time cannot be removed or reduced once it is set. The

vcdba_display

command with

-r

option can be used to display all virtual copy volumes with their

corresponding retention time.

Requirements for setting retention time:

The retention time will only be applied for read-only database virtual copy.

The retention time can be set during RM-O configuration time (

vcdba_config

) per

database as a policy or during virtual copy creation time (

vcdba_create

or

vcdba_rsync

).

The retention time set during configuration time serves as the default value all virtual

copies created thereafter.

The retention time can also be specified during a virtual copy creation to overwrite the

retention value set during the RM configuration.

The retention time can be modified but it can not be lower than the original setting.

The retention time can be specified in hours or days.

The minimum value for retention time is 0 hour and the maximum value is 43800 hours

(1825 days or 5 years).

The retention time can be set to 0 indicating that a database virtual copy has no retention

time and can be removed immediately.
