Remote Compatible FlashCopy function
The Remote Compatible FlashCopy function enables you to perform operations on Compatible
FlashCopy relationships on the Cnt Ac-S Z remote storage system from the host connected to the
Cnt Ac-S Z local storage system. This function can be used for both Compatible FlashCopy and
Compatible FlashCopy SE relationships.
The Remote Compatible FlashCopy operation proceeds in the following order:
•
First, a Compatible FlashCopy operation command is issued to the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL.
•
Next, the command is transmitted from the Main Control Unit (MCU) to the Remote Control
Unit (RCU).
•
Finally, the remote storage system identifies the Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL as a Compatible FlashCopy
S-VOL and performs a Remote Compatible FlashCopy operation (for example, it creates a
relationship, releases a relationship, or displays information about a relationship).
The Remote Compatible FlashCopy function cannot be performed in the following cases:
•
The Compatible FlashCopy operation command is not issued to the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL.
•
The Compatible FlashCopy source volume is not the Cnt Ac-S Z secondary volume.
•
An extent is specified when you establish a relationship. You cannot use extents to establish
a relationship for a dataset copying.
•
The Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL is in Simplex (unpaired) status.
•
The Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL is in Pending duplex status.
•
The Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL is in Duplex or Suspend status, and the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL is in Simplex
or Pending duplex status.
The following figure shows the Remote Compatible FlashCopy function. If the Compatible FlashCopy
SE license is not installed in the local site, only the remote-site Compatible FlashCopy SE relationships
are released.
