By executing the devserv command, you can view the information on the direct access
memory device 4200 and on the magnetic disk controller. Based on the information displayed,
update the information on the expanded functions that are maintained in the storage of the
host processor. By these expanded functions, the host recognizes that Compatible FlashCopy
is supported.

6.

Establish Compatible FlashCopy relationships.

7.

Use Remote Web Console or the FCQUERY command to confirm that all of the Compatible
FlashCopy relationships that you established have been created.

Removing Compatible FlashCopy

To remove (uninstall) Compatible FlashCopy:
1.

Use a host command to withdraw all Compatible FlashCopy relationships.

2.

Use Remote Web Console or the FCQUERY command to confirm that all the Compatible
FlashCopy relationships have been deleted.

3.

Vary all devices used by Compatible FlashCopy offline.

4.

In the Remote Web Console window, select Compatible FlashCopy, click Uninstall, and click
Apply.

5.

Vary all devices used by Compatible FlashCopy back online.

The host recognizes that Compatible FlashCopy was removed.

6.

Execute the devserv command with the VALIDATE option of QDASD to the devices in the
storage system. For an example of the devserv command, see

(page 38)

.

7.

From your host, perform the mainframe host path offline/online operation.

Compatible FlashCopy does not support the REMOVEFCPY parameter of the command.

License Capacity Requirements

The total volume capacity that is used in Compatible FlashCopy must be less than the license
capacity you purchased. You need to maintain the total volume capacity that is used in Compatible
FlashCopy that is less than or equal to the license capacity that you purchased.

License capacity for Compatible FlashCopy:

The total capacity of S-VOLs and T-VOLs of Compatible FlashCopy must be less than or equal
to the license capacity that you purchased.

When you use the volumes of Thin Provisioning as the S-VOLs and T-VOLs of Compatible
FlashCopy, the pool capacity of Thin Provisioning is added to the license capacity of
Compatible FlashCopy. The license capacity of Thin Provisioning volumes cannot be renewed
in real time. Therefore, by the multiple write requests against the pools, the purchased license
capacity may be exceeded.

CAUTION:

If the total volume capacity that is used in Compatible FlashCopy exceeds the volume

capacity that you purchased, you can still continue to use Compatible FlashCopy for another 30
days. After that, you can delete Compatible FlashCopy relationships but cannot perform any other
Compatible FlashCopy operations.

License capacity for Compatible FlashCopy SE:

The total capacity of S-VOLs and T-VOLs of Compatible FlashCopy SE must be less than or
equal to the license capacity that you purchased.

For source volumes, the capacity is added in the same way as for Compatible FlashCopy.
For target volumes, which are TSE-VOLs, the capacity for the tracks in use is added track by
