7 Business Copy/Snapshot troubleshooting

This chapter provides BC/SS troubleshooting information.

General troubleshooting

The following table shows general SS troubleshooting information.

Causes and solutions

Problem

Causes:

You cannot install SS.

Shared memory for the V-VOL management area is not installed.

Shared memory is not set for the V-VOL management area.

Shared memory for the differential tables is not installed.

Solutions:

Check if the shared memory for the V-VOL management area and the differential tables
is installed.

Check if the shared memory for the V-VOL management area is correctly set.

To check installation and settings, contact HP Technical Support.

Cause: The pool is blocked.

Pool information is not shown.

Solution: Recover the blocked pool. For more information, see

“Recovering a blocked pool

workflow” (page 55)

Cause: The pool-VOLs are blocked.

A pool is blocked.

Solution:

1.

Recover the blocked pool. For more information, see

“Recovering a blocked pool

workflow” (page 55)

.

Complete the SIMs. For more information, see

“Pool-related SIM entry removal workflow”

(page 56)

.

Causes:

Pool usage rate exceeds the
threshold.

An excess of SS data is being stored in the pool.

Capacity of the pool is insufficient.

Threshold of the pool is too low.

Solutions:

1.

Complete one or more of the following:
• Delete old or less important SS data to decrease the usage rate of the pool.
• Add more pool-VOLs to increase the capacity of the pool.

Note: You need unused volumes to add the pool-VOLs. If you do not have unused
volume, you must create new volumes or contact HP Technical Support to have them
add the hard disks. The solution to this problem may take time.

• Set a larger value for the pool threshold.

2.

Complete the SIMs.

Causes:

Cannot add pool-VOLs.

The maximum number of pool-VOLs are set in the pool.

system requirements” (page 11)

.

Available pool management block in the V-VOL management area in the shared memory
is insufficient.

You did not following the Pool-VOL requirements.
