Setting command devices using in-band and out-of-band methods

The setting contents of a command device or a virtual command device to be defined for a
configuration definition file for executing the commands in the in-band and when executing
commands using the methods are shown below.

In-band method

When executing a command using the in-band method, set an LU path in a configuration definition
file and create a command device. The command device in the storage system specified by the
LU path accepts the command from the client, and executes the operation instruction.

A setting example of a command device for the configuration definition file in the in-band method
is shown as follows.

sor: 64015 device special file name: /dev/rdsk/*

HORCM_CMD
#dev_name dev_name dev_name
\\.\CMD-64015:/dev/rdsk/*

The bold part above is the set item. The description of the set item is shown below.

\\.\CMD-<sor>:<device special file name>

<sor>: sets sor. <device special file name..>: Sets the device special file name of the command
device.

Out-of-band method

Meanwhile, when executing a command using the out-of-band method, create a virtual command
device. The virtual command device creates an IP address of the SVP, a UDP communication port
number, and a storage system unit number in the configuration definition file.

When a command is executed using the out-of-band method, the command is transferred from the
client or the server to the IP address of the virtual command device in the SVP, then the operation
is instructed to the storage system side.

A setting example of the command device and a virtual command device in the out-of-band method
is shown as follows.

SVP IP address: 192.168.1.100 UDP communication port number: 31001 Disk array unit number
00001

HORCM_CMD
#dev_name dev_name dev_name
\\.\IPCMD-192.168.1.100-31001

The bold part above is the set item. The description of the set item is shown below.

\\.\IPCMD-< SVP's IP address>-< UDP communication port number>

<SVP IP address>: Sets the IP address for the SVP. <UDP communication port number>: Sets a
UDP communication port number. The value is fixed (31001).

User authentication

RAID Manager allows user authentication by using the user information managed by Remote Web
Console and the SVP.

User authentication is arbitrary in the Replication operation in the in-band method while the operation
by user authentication is mandatory in the configuration information operation and in the out-of-band
method.

To enable the user authentication function, the user authentication mode of the command device
accessed by RAID Manager must be enabled.
