Installing and Setting Up the Microsoft SQL Server Database (Optional)

To install the Microsoft SQL Server Database, you must create the database and then set up a valid
login and user. Consult the appropriate Microsoft SQL Server documentation for details.

For best performance with Microsoft SQL Server, it is ideal to create a data filegroup and an index
filegroup. Also, because SQL Server works with 8 k pages, each filegroup consists ideally of
multiple small files. For example, for a 10 GB database, HP recommends that you create five files
of 2 GB each for the data filegroup, and that you create files of about the same size for the index
filegroup. For optimal results, the indexes can be moved to the index filegroup. System Reporter
will perform many insertions and deletions.

In Microsoft SQL Server, the System Reporter database user writing into the database should be
either a database owner (DBO) or should create the database in such a way that the user creates
tables in the DBO schema. System Reporter requires that tables be of type DBO.

System Reporter Host Configuration

Once you have set up the Microsoft SQL database and created a login and user, you need to
configure the System Reporter host to create the data source (ODBC) using the appropriate
Administrative Tools

.

NOTE:

The screens shown in the following examples are specific for the 32 bit ODBC

Administrator utility but are similar to those for the 64 bit Administrator utility.

For a 64 bit Windows Server please run the 32 bit ODBC Administration utility to create the DSN.
Usually, this utility can be found in the following path:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
