Pairs can be created using volumes in a virtual storage machine. Please note the following:
•
Though Remote Web Console displays the virtual LDEV ID of a volume belonging to a virtual
storage machine, make sure when running pair operations in Remote Web Console that you
specify the physical XP7 LDEV ID.
•
A volume's virtual ID used with Continuous Access Synchronous cannot be deleted.
LUN Manager
•
LUN Manager operations do not affect Cnt Ac-S operations.
•
Volumes that are under secure ports and/or that are assigned to host groups can also be
assigned to Cnt Ac-S pairs.
•
Volumes that are assigned to Cnt Ac-S pairs can also be assigned to secure ports and host
groups for LUN Manager.
•
Cnt Ac-S S-VOLs cannot be accessed by any UNIX/PC server host except when the pair is
split.

Performance Monitor
Performance Monitor software provides detailed information about I/O activity and hardware
performance in XP7 systems. Storage system usage and performance data is collected and displayed
by Performance Monitor. This information helps you to:
•
Identify the optimum timing for performing Cnt Ac-S operations.
•
Determine the best locations for the Cnt Ac-S S-VOL (for example, parity groups with
less-frequently accessed volumes to avoid bottlenecks of backend activity).
•
Monitor system performance during Cnt Ac-S operations and during testing activities.
Procedure 6 To lower performance impact on Continuous Access Synchronous operations
1. If Performance Monitor is collecting large amounts of LDEV data, disable this activity for one
or more storage systems.
2. If Performance Monitor is collecting data for more than three storage systems on the XP7-internal
LAN, disconnect Performance Monitor, if possible, from one or more storage systems before
using Cnt Ac-S.
3. When Cnt Ac-S operations are completed, re-enable Performance Monitor data collection.

Business Copy
Business Copy volumes can be assigned to Cnt Ac-S pairs, and Cnt Ac-S volumes can be assigned
to BC pairs. The following table shows the configurations that are possible.
