The Super Lift & Cut system ensures a close and easy

shave every day. For the best result, move the shaving

heads over your skin in both straight and circular

movements.

Replace the shaving heads every two years for optimal

shaving results.

Important

Read this user manual carefully before you use the

appliance and save it for future reference.

Danger

- Keep the shaver and the mains cord dry (Fig. 2).

Warning

- This appliance is not intended for use by persons

(including children) with reduced physical, sensory

or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and

knowledge, unless they have been given supervision

or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a

person responsible for their safety.

- Children should be supervised to ensure that they

do not play with the appliance.

- Do not use the shaver or the mains cord if it is

damaged.

- If the mains cord is damaged, always have it replaced

with one of the original type in order to avoid a

hazard.
Caution

- Always put the protection cap on the shaver

to protect the shaving heads when you are

travelling (Fig. 3).

- Only use the mains cord supplied.

- Charge and store the appliance at a temperature

between 5°C and 35°C.

- This appliance is not washable. Never immerse the

appliance in water, nor rinse it under the tap.
Compliance with standards

This Philips appliance complies with all standards

regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled

properly and according to the instructions in this user

manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientific

evidence available today.

General

The appliance is equipped with an automatic voltage

selector and is suitable for mains voltages from 100 to

240 volts.

Charging

Charge the appliance:

- before first use and when you have not used the

appliance for a long time

- when the motor stops or starts running slower

When you have charged the shaver for the first time and

after a long period of disuse, optimise the battery capacity

in the following way:

Fully charge the shaver (see section ‘Charging the

shaver’ below).

Empty the battery through normal use (shaving).

Repeat this process 2 more times.

Note: If you optimise the battery capacity in this way, you

can also charge the shaver in between shaves, even if the

battery is not completely empty yet. This does not damage

the battery.

Charging the shaver

Put the appliance plug in the shaver (Fig. 4).

Put the mains plug in the wall socket.

Note: Make sure the shaver is switched off.

, The charging light goes on. The light stays on as long

as the shaver is connected to the mains. (Fig. 5)

Charge the shaver for at least 8 hours (HQ6970/

HQ6950/HQ6922, HQ6920) or 1 hour (HQ6990),

but not more than 24 hours.

Note: Do not leave the shaver connected to the mains

continuously.

Note: You can also shave without charging. Simply connect

the shaver to the mains.

Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and

pull the appliance plug out of the shaver when the

battery is fully charged.
Cordless shaving time

A fully charged shaver has a cordless shaving time of up

to 10 days.

Using the appliance
Shaving

Push the on/off slide upwards to switch on the

shaver.

Move the shaving heads over your skin. Make both

straight and circular movements (Fig. 6).

Shaving on a dry face gives the best results.

Your skin may need 2 or 3 weeks to get accustomed to

the Philips shaving system.

Push the on/off slide downwards to switch off the

shaver.

Put the protection cap on the shaver every time

you have used it, to prevent damage (Fig. 3).
Trimming (all types except HQ6922,

HQ6920)

You can use the trimmer to trim your sideburns and

moustache.

Push the slide upwards to open the trimmer (Fig. 7).

The trimmer can be activated while the motor is running.

Cleaning and maintenance

Regular cleaning guarantees better shaving performance.
This appliance is not washable. Never immerse the

appliance in water, nor rinse it under the tap.
Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or

aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the

appliance.

- For easy and optimal cleaning, Philips Shaving Head

Cleaning Spray (type no. HQ110) is available. Ask

your Philips dealer for information.

Note: Philips Shaving Head Cleaning Spray may not be

available in all countries. Contact the Customer Care Centre

in your country about the availability of this accessory.

You can also clean the shaver in the following way:

Every week: shaving unit and hair chamber

Switch off the shaver. Remove the mains plug from

the wall socket and pull the appliance plug out of

the shaver.

Clean the top of the appliance first. Use the

cleaning brush supplied (Fig. 8).

Press the release button (1) and remove the

shaving unit (2) (Fig. 9).

Clean the inside of the shaving unit and the hair

chamber with the cleaning brush (Fig. 10).

Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver (Fig. 11).

Every two months: shaving heads

Switch off the shaver. Remove the mains plug from

the wall socket and pull the appliance plug out of

the shaver.

Press the release button (1) and remove the

shaving unit (2) (Fig. 9).

Turn the wheel anticlockwise (1) and remove the

retaining frame (2) (Fig. 12).

Remove the cutters and guards and clean them

with the cleaning brush supplied (Fig. 13).

Note: Do not clean more than one cutter and guard at a

time, since they are all matching sets. If you accidentally mix

up the cutters and guards, it may take several weeks before

optimal shaving performance is restored.

Clean the cutter with the short-bristled side of the

cleaning brush (Fig. 14).

Brush carefully in the direction of the arrow.

Brush the guard (Fig. 15).

Put the shaving heads back into the shaving unit.

Put the retaining frame back into the shaving unit,

push it down (1) and turn the wheel clockwise

(2) (Fig. 16).

Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver.

Extra through cleaning

For extra thorough cleaning, put the shaving heads in

a degreasing liquid (e.g. alcohol) every six months. To

remove the shaving heads, follow steps 1 to 4 described

above. After cleaning, lubricate the central point on the

inside of the guards with a drop of sewing machine oil to

prevent wear of the shaving heads.

Trimmer (all types except HQ6922,

HQ6920)

Clean the trimmer every time you have used it.

Switch off the shaver. Remove the mains plug from

the wall socket and pull the appliance plug out of

the shaver.

Clean the trimmer with the cleaning brush

supplied (Fig. 17).

Tip: Lubricate the trimmer teeth with a drop of sewing

machine oil every six months (Fig. 18).

Storage

Put the protection cap on the shaver to prevent

damage (Fig. 3).
Replacement

Replace the shaving heads every two years for optimal

shaving results.

Replace damaged or worn shaving heads with HQ55

Philips Shaving Heads only.

Switch off the shaver. Remove the mains plug from

the wall socket and pull the appliance plug out of

the shaver.

Press the release button (1) and remove the

shaving unit (2) (Fig. 19).

Turn the wheel anticlockwise (1) and remove the

retaining frame (2) (Fig. 12).

Remove the shaving heads and place new ones in

the shaving unit (Fig. 13).

Put the retaining frame back into the shaving unit,

push it down (1) and turn the wheel clockwise

(2) (Fig. 16).

Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver.

Accessories

The following accessories are available:

- HQ55 Philips Shaving Heads.

- HQ110 Philips Shaving Head Cleaning Spray.

Environment

- Do not throw away the appliance with the normal

household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in

at an official collection point for recycling. By doing

this, you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 20).

- The built-in rechargeable battery contains substances

that may pollute the environment. Always remove

the battery before you discard and hand in the

appliance at an official collection point. Dispose of

the battery at an official collection point for batteries.

If you have trouble removing the battery, you can

also take the appliance to a Philips service centre. The

staff of this centre will remove the battery for you

and will dispose of it in an environmentally safe way.
