MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION

Carburetor/Engine Idle RPM Adjustment

The idle speed adjustment should be performed as outlined in the

Periodic Maintenance Schedule, or whenever the idle speed is changed.
Recommended engine idle RPM is 1200 +/- 200. If the engine idle

speed is not satisfactory, and all other conditions are favorable, the

carburetor can be adjusted with the following procedure.
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Place the gear shift lever in the neutral

position.

3. Warm up the engine by running the vehicle

approximately five minutes.

4. Remove the the seat and locate the idle

screw (1).

5. Place the transmission in gear (with the

parking brake applied.)

6. Adjust the carburetor idle screw in or out

until the desired idle RPM is reached.

Turn the screw in (clockwise) to raise

RPM. Turn the screw out

(counterclockwise) to lower RPM.

Cylinder Head/Cylinder Base Fastener Torque

Have your dealer check the RANGER cylinder head and cylinder base

fasteners for proper torque at the first service or after 25 hours.
