AASTRA, Aastra Telecom

Aastra Technologies with headquarters in Concord, Ontario, Canada, started as an engineering company offering services to aerospace and defense industries. Communication networks is its next specialization when in 1992 the company began to develop, promote and market telecommunication products and systems . Within 1996-1999 Aastra strongly expanded profits at the expense of internal resources but recently Aastra has changed its development strategy and started aggressive acquisition of new companies with the aim to expand the geography of business, product portfolio, channel partners and increase knowledge and competence. In consequence of Ascom PBX acquisition in 2003 Aastra completed its own terminals and marked a strong presence in the telephony market for small and medium businesses. It was followed by acquisition of EADS telephony solutions in 2005 whereby Aastra expanded its portfolio with medium and large-sized enterprise market and also IP telephony. 2005 brought to Aastra wireless product expertise of DeTeWe, one of the founder of DECT technology. Thanks to Ericsson’s Enterprise Communication division in 2008 Aastra acquired a stronger position in EMEA and in the developing markets. Besides its portfolio of communication technologies for medium to large enterprises and video conferencing as well as integrated mobility was consolidated. Comdasys AG, headquartered in Munich, Germany, in 2012 was purchased by Aastra, which advanced its fixed mobile video technologies, including mobile video solutions for Aastra BluStar system.
