FOR INSTALLATIONS

IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA

California Law requires that residential water
heaters must be braced, anchored or strapped
to resist falling or horizontal displacement due
to earthquake motions. For residential water
heaters up to 52 gallon capacity, a brochure with
generic earthquake bracing instructions can be
obtained from: Office of the State Architect, 400 P
Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 or you may call
916.324.5315 or ask a water heater dealer.

However, applicable local codes shall govern
installation. For residential water heaters of a
capacity greater than 52 gallons, consult the local
building jurisdiction for acceptable bracing
procedures.
