NIM Warning!

warning :

42-134 m_bos_inst : unable to initiate network boot on

"MachineObjectName"

The warning means NIM was unable to force the target to load the network boot
image. Loading the network boot image must be initiated from the NIM client.

9.3 Using a PCI-Based RS/6000 Server as a NIM Client

In our example, we tested the PCI-based RS/6000 server as a NIM Master and as
a NIM Client. The configuration steps described here apply to both PCI-based
RS/6000 servers and PCI-based RS/6000 workstations. The firmware on the
PCI-based RS/6000 servers is slightly different to that on the PCI-based RS/6000
workstations; thus some options in the System Management Services programs are
slightly different. However, for NIM installation purposes, there are no other
differences that need to be considered, except the fact that on the PCI-based
RS/6000 servers you don't need an System Management Services diskette. The
System Management Services programs are installed in the machine's NVRAM.

The figures and screens included here apply to the PCI-based RS/6000 servers.

The configuration of the PCI-based RS/6000 NIM client involves the configuration of
a Subnet Mask and the IP Addresses for:

Client machine

Server machine

Gateway machine

To configure the NIM Client, perform the following steps:

1. Power-on the system unit.

2. When the logo screen appears, press the F4 key.

Note: You must press the F4 key before the last icon is displayed at the
bottom of the screen.
