Fibre Channel Features

Loop Expansion

FORTRA

15-bay 2Gb/s Fibre Channel JBOD enclosures include a loop

expansion I/O connector on each fibre channel drive port. This allows the
connection to other Fibre Channel JBOD enclosures.

Loop Bypass and Clock Timing Circuit

Each port includes a loop bypass circuit that monitors each slot for a loop
connection. It has two modes of operation: NORMAL and BYPASS. In
NORMAL mode, the device is connected to the loop. In BYPASS mode, the
device is either absent or non-functional and data bypasses to the next available
device until the correct device is located.

The unit also has a built-in clock recovery circuit that adjusts the timing for any
input or output that is going through the enclosure.

SFP Connector

The 15-bay 2Gb/s Fibre Channel enclosures use Small Formfactor Plug (SFP) as
the Fibre I/O ports.

Dual Loops

A single loop is required for unit operation, however both loops can be used to
connect to different hosts, dual host adapters, and other devices, for flexible and
even redundant configurations. For specific connection and installation
information, refer to

Chapter 4

.

ID Selection

0-124 device ID addresses are addressable and can be easily set-up via ID rotary
switches located on the personality modules. For specific connection and
installation information, refer to

Chapter 4

.

SES

The 15-bay Fibre Channel enclosures have a built-in SES processor on the
personality card. See

Chapter 8

for SES information.
