CHECKING CRANKSHAFT VIBRATION
DAMPER (6-CYLINDER ENGINE ONLY)

1. Remove belts (shown removed).

2. Grasp vibration damper with both hands and attempt to

turn it in both directions. If rotation is felt, damper is
defective and should be replaced.

IMPORTANT: The vibration damper assembly is not

repairable and should be replaced every
4500 hours or 5 years, whichever
occurs first.

3. Check vibration damper radial runout by positioning a

dial indicator so probe contacts damper outer
circumference.

4. With engine at operating temperature, rotate crankshaft

using JDG820 or JDE83 Flywheel Turning Tool.

5. Note dial indicator reading. If runout exceeds

specifications given below, replace vibration damper.
