Notes on FUNCTION
• Even when the tape is stopped, the
FUNCTION may be operated. When
FUNCTION and other operating
buttons are pressed the LED lamp
will light to show the present mode,
and when FUNCTION and other
operating buttons are released, the
LED will go off.
• Do not press the FUNCTION button
on the Walkman when switching
SOUND • AVLS on the remote
control.

Information
Precautions
On rechargeable battery and
charger
• If the rechargeable battery is new
or has not been used for a long
time, it may not be charged
completely until you use it several
times.
• The nameplate indicating the
operating voltage, power
consumption, etc. is located on the
bottom exterior of the battery
charger.
On batteries
Do not carry the batteries with
coins or other metallic objects. It
can generate heat if the positive
and negative terminals of the
batteries are accidentally contacted
by a metallic object.
On the unit
• Do not drop the unit or give a
shock to the unit, or it may cause
a malfunction.
• Do not leave the unit in a location
near heat sources, or in a
place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or sand, moisture,
rain, mechanical shock, or in a car
with its windows closed.
• (EX662 only) The LCD display
may become hard to see or slow
down when using the unit at high
temperatures (above 40°C/104°F)
or at low temperatures (below
0°C/32°F). At room temperature,
the display will return to its
normal operating condition.
• If the unit has not been used for
long, set it in the playback mode
and warm it up for a few minutes
before inserting a tape.
On tapes longer than 90
minutes
We do not recommend the use of
tapes longer than 90 minutes
except for a long continuous
playback. They are very thin and
tend to be stretched easily.
On the remote control
Use the supplied remote control
only for each unit.
On headphones/earphones
Road safety
Do not use headphones/earphones
while driving, cycling, or operating
any motorized vehicle. It may
create a traffic hazard and is illegal
in some areas. It can also be
potentially dangerous to play your
headphones/earphones at high
volume while walking, especially
at pedestrian crossings.
You should exercise extreme
caution or discontinue use in
potentially hazardous situations.
Preventing hearing damage
Do not use headphones/earphones
at high volume. Hearing experts
advise against continuous, loud
and extended play. If you
experience a ringing in your ears,
reduce volume or discontinue use.
Caring for others
Keep the volume at a moderate
level. This will allow you to hear
outside sounds and to be
considerate to the people around
you.
Maintenance
To clean the tape head and
path
Use the cleaning cassette CHK-1
(not supplied) every 10 hours of
use.
Note
• Use only the recommended cleaning
cassette.
To clean the exterior
Use a soft cloth slightly moistened
in water. Do not use alcohol,
benzine or thinner.
Note
• Clean the headphones/earphones
plug periodically.
Troubleshooting
The cassette holder does not
open.
• If the tape is playing, stop and
then slide OPEN.
• This condition may occur when
you remove the power sources
during playback, or when you use
exhausted dry battery. Set the
power sources again or replace
the exhausted battery with new
one.
The volume cannot be turned up.
• Set AVLS to off.
When operating the remote
control, press and hold
SOUND•AVLS until “
” is not

The tape fast forwards by itself
during playback.

Using Other
Functions
The following operations are used

• For the BL SKIP function, you need a
blank of 12 seconds or longer
between the tracks. Therefore, if
there is noise between the tracks,
these functions will not detect the
blank and will not operate. Likewise,
if the recording level is moderately
low within a track, this function may
inaccurately operate.

Zur besonderen
Beachtung
Akku und Ladegerät
•Ein ganz neuer Akku oder ein
Akku, der längere Zeit nicht
benutzt wurde, läßt sich
möglicherweise nicht voll
aufladen. Erst nach mehrmaligen
Wiederaufladen besitzt der Akku
seine normale Kapazität.
• Der Typenschild mit Angabe der
Betriebsspannung, der
Leistungsaufnahme usw. befindet
sich an der Unterseite des
Ladegeräts.
Batterien
Stecken Sie keine Batterien
zusammen mit Metallgegenstände
in eine Tasche, da es sonst durch
Kurzschluß der Batteriekontakte
zu Hitzeentwicklung kommen
kann.
Gerät
• Lassen Sie das Gerät nicht fallen
und stoßen Sie es nirgends an, da
es sonst zu Störungen kommen
kann.
• Stellen Sie das Gerät nicht in die
Nähe von Wärmequellen und
auch nicht an Plätze, die prallem
Sonnenlicht, Sand, Staub,
Feuchtigkeit oder Regen
ausgesetzt sind. Lassen Sie es
auch nicht in einem in der prallen
Sonne geparkten Wagen zurück.
• (Nur EX662) Wenn die
Umgebungstemperatur sehr hoch
(über 40 °C) oder sehr niedrig
(unter 0 °C) ist, sind die Anzeigen
im Display möglicherweise nur
schwer zu sehen und das Display
arbeitet sehr träge. Sobald das
Gerät wieder Zimmertemperatur
ausgesetzt wird, arbeitet das
Display wieder normal.
• Wenn das Gerät längere Zeit nicht
verwendet worden ist, schalten
Sie es einige Minuten ohne
Cassette auf Wiedergabe, damit es
sich etwas aufwärmt.
Zu Cassetten mit einer
Spielzeit von mehr als 90
Minuten
Cassetten mit einer Spielzeit von 90
Minuten oder mehr sollten nur
verwendet werden, wenn eine lange
durchgehende. Wiedergabezeit
unbedingt erforderlich ist. Da das
Band dieser Cassetten sehr dünn ist,
kann es sich leicht verziehen.
Fernbedienung
Verwenden Sie die mitgelieferte
Fernbedienung nur zusammen mit
diesem Gerät.
Hinweise zum Kopfhörer/
Ohrhörer
Verkehrssicherheit
Verwenden Sie beim Autofahren,
Fahrradfahren oder Betrieb
irgendeines motorisierten
Fahrzeugs keinen Kopfhörer/
Ohrhörer, da dies gefährlich und in
vielen Ländern gesetzlich verboten
ist. Auch beim Gehen kann
Kopfhörer- /Ohrhörerbetrieb mit
hoher Lautstärke gefährlich sein,
insbesondere an Kreuzungen und
Fußgängerüberwegen. Nehmen Sie
den Kopfhörer in
Gefahrensituationen sofort ab.
Vermeidung von Gehörschäden
Betreiben Sie den Kopfhörer/
Ohrhörer nicht mit hoher
Lautstärke, da dies schädlich für
Ihre Hörorgane ist. Wenn Sie ein
dumpfes Gefühl in Ihren Ohren
verspüren, reduzieren Sie die
Lautstärke oder nehmen Sie den
Kopfhörer ab.
Rücksicht auf andere
Stellen Sie stets nur einen mäßigen
Lautstärkepegel ein. So können Sie
Außengeräusche noch
wahrnehmen, und andere Leute
werden nicht gestört.
Wartung
Reinigung von Tonkopf und
Bandpfad
Reinigen Sie diese Teile nach
jeweils 10 Betriebsstunden mit der
Reinigungscassette CHK-1 (nicht
mitgeliefert).
Hinweis
• Verwenden Sie nur die empfohlene
Reinigungscassette.
Reinigung des Gehäuses
Zur Reinigung des Gehäuses
verwenden Sie ein weiches, leicht
mit Wasser angefeuchtetes Tuch.
Alkohol, Benzin oder Verdünner
dürfen nicht verwendet werden.
Hinweis
• Reinigen Sie auch die Kopfhörer- /
Ohrhörerstecker buchse regelmäßig.
Störungsüberprüfungen
Der Cassettenhalter läßt sich
nicht öfnen.
• Wenn das Band läuft, stoppen Sie
es, und betätigen Sie dann OPEN.
• Während der Wiedergabe wurde
die Stromquelle abgetrennt oder
die Batterie ist erschöpft. Bringen
sie die Stromquelle wieder an
bzw. wechseln Sie die Batterie
aus.
Die Lautstärke läßt sich nicht
erhöhen.
• Schalten Sie AVLS aus.
Bei Verwendung der Fernbedienung
halten Sie SOUND•AVLS gedrückt,
bis “
” erlischt (nur EX662).
Während der Wiedergabe
beginnt plötzlich der
Vorspulvorgang.

Nettoyage du coffret
Utilisez un chiffon doux
légèrement mouillé. Ne pas utiliser
d’alcool, de benzine ni de diluant.

• Nettoyez régulièrement la fiche des
écouteurs ou du casque.
Guide de dépannage
Le logement de la cassette ne
s’ouvre pas.
• Si la cassette est en cours de
lecture, arrêtez l’appareil et
poussez OPEN.

débranchez la source

lecture, ou lorsque vous utilisez

Précautions
Batterie rechargeable et
chargeur
• Si la batterie rechargeable est
neuve et n’a pas été utilisée
pendant longtemps, elle ne se
chargera complètement qu’après
une utilisation et une recharge
répétées.
• La plaque signalétique indiquant
la tension de fonctionnement, la
consommation d’électricité et
d’autres paramètres électriques se
trouve sous le chargeur de
batterie.
Pile
Ne pas porter la pile sèche avec
des pièces de monnaie ou d’autres
objets métalliques. Le contact des
bornes positive et négative avec un
objet métallique peut générer de la
chaleur.
Appareil
• Ne pas laisser tomber l’appareil
ou lui faire subir des chocs, afin
d’éviter tout problème de
fonctionnement.
• Ne pas exposer l’appareil à une
source de chaleur, au soleil, à la
poussière, au sable, à l’humidité, à

durée. Les bandes de ces cassettes
sont très fines et ont tendance à se
détendre.
