Operation
The surround effect is difficult to
hear when you are playing a
sound track of Dolby Digital,
DTS, or MPEG audio. • Make sure the “DEC. MODE” setting (page 30).
• Check the speaker connections and settings (pages 19, 55).
• Depending on the DVD, the output signal may not be the entire 5.1 channel. It
may be monaural or stereo even if the sound track is recorded in Dolby Digital
or MPEG audio format.
The sound comes from the center
speaker only. • Depending on the disc, the sound may come from the center speaker only.
No sound is heard from the
center speaker. • Check the speaker connections and settings (pages 19, 55).
• Make sure the “DEC. MODE” setting (page 30).
• Depending on the source, the effect of the center speaker may be less
noticeable.
• A 2 channel source is being played.
No sound or only a very low-
level sound is heard from the
surround speakers. • Check the speaker connections and settings (pages 19, 55).
• Make sure the “DEC. MODE” setting (page 30).

There is no sound from the
DIGITAL IN COAXIAL/
OPTICAL jack. • The sampling frequency of the input signal is more than 48 kHz.
Symptom Remedy
Radio stations cannot be tuned
in. • Check that the antenna (aerial) is connected securely. Adjust the antenna
(aerial) or connect an external antenna (aerial) if necessary.
• The signal strength of the stations is too weak (when tuning in with automatic
tuning). Use direct tuning.
• No stations have been preset or the preset stations have been cleared (when
tuning by scanning preset stations). Preset the stations (page 58).
• Press DISPLAY so that the frequency appears in the front panel display.
Noise is heard on AM radio. • Check the location of the AM loop antenna (aerial) and cord (page 23).
The remote does not function. • There are obstacles between the remote and the unit.
• The distance between the remote and the unit is too far.
• The remote is not pointed at the remote sensor on the unit.
• The batteries in the remote are weak.
The disc does not play. • There is no disc inserted.
• The disc is upside down.
Insert the disc with the playback side facing down.
• The disc is skewed on the disc tray.
• The system cannot play CD-ROMs, etc. (page 5).
• The region code on the DVD does not match the system.
• Moisture has condensed inside the unit and may cause damage to the lenses.
Remove the disc and leave the unit turned on for about half an hour.
