Welcome!

Welcome to the world of the MiniDisc! Here
are some of the capabilities and features you
will discover with the new MiniDisc player.

Thin body, compact MiniDisc player.
You can operate this player by inserting

either a dry battery or a “chewing-gum
type” rechargeable battery into the battery
compartment of the player.

Shuttle dial remote control with LCD

Keep the main unit in your pocket and
operate the MiniDisc player through the
shuttle dial on the remote control; The LCD
diplays track information, playback mode
as well as battery condition.

MD playing

Playing an MD! A

You can operate the player on a dry battery.
You can also operate the player on a
rechargeable battery or house current (see
"Power Sources").
The player automatically switches to play the
stereo or monaural sound according to the
recorded sound.

Open the battery compartment lid and
insert an LR6 alkaline battery like the
illustration in this manual.
The battery should last for about 6 hours
of continuous playback before the need of
replacing the battery.

Insert an MD.

1 Slide the OPEN switch and open the

lid.

2 Insert the MD with the label side

facing up, and press the lid down to
close.

Play the MD.

1 Connect the headphones (supplied) to

the remote control.

2 Connect the headphones with remote

control (supplied) to the
2 (headphones) jack of the player.

3 Press (. (Turn the control to

(•+ on the remote control.)
The player starts to play the first track.
A short beep sounds in the
headphones.

4 Press VOLUME +/– buttons or the

VOL +/– buttons on the remote
control to adjust the volume.
You can check the volume in the
display on the remote control.

To stop play, press

p.

A long beep sounds in the headphones.

If the playing does not start

Make sure the player is not locked. See “To
lock the controls”.

Playing tracks repeatedly B

Press the PLAY MODE button on the remote
control while the player is playing an MD.
Each time you press the PLAY MODE button,
the play mode indication on the remote
control changes as follows:

(none) (normal play)
All the tracks are played once.

f" (all repeat)

All the tracks are played repeatedly.

"

f 1" (single repeat)

A single track is played repeatedly.

"

f SHUF" (shuffle repeat)

All the tracks are played repeatedly in
random order.

Using other functions

To know the track name and time C

Press the DISPLAY button on the remote
control while the player is playing an MD.
Each time you press the DISPLAY button, the
lapsed time of the current track and the track
number, the track name and number, and the
disc name and the number of the track
recorded on the MD appear.

Note
Disc and track names appear only with MDs that
have been electronically labeled.

To lock the controls D

Slide the HOLD switch in the direction of the
c.

To emphasize bass (Digital Mega
Bass function)

Slide the DIGITAL MEGA BASS switch and
choose 1 (slight effect) or 2 (strong effect).

To protect your hearing (AVLS) F

Set the AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter
System) switch to LIMIT.
The volume is kept at a moderate level, even
if you try to turn the volume above the
limited level.

Power Sources

Using on a rechargeable battery

Charge the rechargeble battery NH-9WM
(not supplied) with the battery charger.
Refer to the instructions manual that
came with the charger for charging.
A fully-charged battery should power
consecutive playback for about 4.5 hours
before you need to recharge it.

Open the battery compartment lid and
insert the charged battery.

When to replace or recharge the
battery

When b flashes in the display, the dry
battery or the rechargeable battery is weak.
Replace the dry battery or recharge the
rechargeable battery. When the battery
power is gone, "LoBATT" flashes in the
display of the remote control and the power
goes off.

Using on house current H

Before using the player, remove the
rechargeble battery if it is installed.
Connect the AC-E15L AC power adaptor (not
supplied) to the DC IN 1.5V jack of the player.
Do not use any other AC power adaptor.
